Avoid Fuel Run-outs with Automatic Delivery

Obviously during the coldest days of winter, the demand for heating fuel rises, and many people call for a delivery. But since it?s impossible for us to make immediate deliveries to everyone who calls, you have a greater chance of a run-out if you let your fuel supply run too low.

To prevent this from happening, we urge you to join our FREE automatic delivery program. Thanks to our computerized system, we track weather forecasts and your fuel usage. This lets us know?long before you do?when it?s time to make a delivery. Since automatic deliveries are scheduled in advance, these deliveries take priority over phone orders called in during peak demand periods.

Give us a call if you would like to join automatic delivery and then rest easy this winter.

The Facts Behind Heating with Oil

In the recent past when heating oil prices spiked, the utilities use the temporary price spike to persuade people to switch to natural gas. Converting from oil to gas will not save you money, however. Burgeoning energy demands and supply issues affecting natural gas indicate that this will not change.

Studies have shown that oil heat is the most efficient fuel and is one of the best values. Oil-heated homes heat up faster, burn less fuel and just feel more comfortable. The facts are also coming out about heating oil being a clean fuel. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has shown that smoke and soot emission rates are comparable to those for natural gas. Efficiency tests conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy show that home oil heating equipment operates more efficiently than gas-fired equipment. Greater efficiency lowers fuel costs and emissions.

NORA is launched!

The dollars received by the NORA (National Oilheat Research Alliance) checkoff plan for the Oilheat industry will be devoted to research and development, technical training, and marketing and information tools to reach the consuming public - all designed to foster value and growth of the Oilheat market place.

Once collected, these funds will be used for consumer education, Oilheat research and development, and technical training to the benefit of consuming public and the industry.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is outlining ways to work with the Oilheat industry in developing an aggressive research and development program. Research on Oilheat equipment may quadruple, with NORA likely to receive matching funds as high as a 4-1 ratio from DOE, i.e., four dollars from DOE for every one dollar NORA provides. Nora aims to ensure:

    • That the public knows the benefits of heating with oil
    • That oil heat technicians have the training to provide the best service to customers
    • That research to improve heating oil and the equipment it fuels continues to advance

NORA is patterned after proven checkoff programs. Checkoff programs you are likely familiar with include "Beef, It's what's for dinner:" "Pork, the other white meat:" and "Got Milk?" Those are indicative of large scale campaigns enabled by checkoff programs. Each program established a universal theme for the product, provided research to improve the quality of the product, and strengthen the industry.

The Oilheat story is best told by NORA. Oilheat provides the best space and water heating option in many markets. Several studies by the Department of Energy have shown Oilheat to be the most cost efficient fuel in its prime marketing area.

New technologies can continue to improve the fuel for oil heat customers, and NORA's emerging partnership with a national laboratory is an important step in that effort. R&D efforts under consideration include environmentally sophisticated burners, improvements in fuel quality and combustion; self-adjusting boilers and furnaces for maximum efficiency: and even electricity generation from silicon chips, using radiance within an Oilheat system's firing chamber as their energy source.

The initial distribution of collected funds to NORA will not begin until April 25, 2001. Many of the aforementioned NORA objectives will have to wait until late fall of this year to commence activity. Accordingly Oilheat dealers throughout the country have the opportunity this spring and summer to work with stat and regional associations to establish activities in concert with NORA program. You should work with the qualified industry organizations to develop effective programs that will benefit customers.
